The journey to healing is a profound and transformative process that involves navigating through past pain, processing emotions and emerging more self-aware. And while it’s ultimately transformative, it often requires us to navigate through the murky waters of the past. While the path to healing is not linear, I’ve found that it can be paved with these three critical steps: 1) acknowledging the past, 2) seeking help, and 3) finding inner strength.

Healing begins with Step 1: Acknowledging the Past. This means facing events and experiences that have caused pain, rather than suppressing or denying them. Acknowledging the past is so necessary because it involves facing the events and experiences head on. This doesn’t mean dwelling on negativity, but rather acknowledging the emotions they evoke and allowing ourselves to process those experiences in healthy & more productive ways.

Healing isn’t a journey that should be traveled alone. Society often encourages independence which leads to suppression or isolation. Step 2: Seeking Help is a sign of strength and an essential component that comes in the form of professional support, support networks (support groups, friends, etc) and educational resources. Seeking help, shatters the myth of the lone warrior on the healing journey. It’s through connection and support that we find the strength to confront our past.

Another key ingredient in the healing journey is Step 3: Finding Inner Strength. This involves the development of resilience which shapes a new positive outlook on the future. In this step, we often discover an inner wellspring of strength that allows us to navigate with newfound confidence and optimism. The journey of healing is deeply personal and an ongoing process requiring courage, so the confidence helps us stay the course and the optimism gives us the fuel to keep going.

By acknowledging the past, seeking help, and ultimately finding inner strength, we’re able to navigate through pain and emerge stronger, wiser and more connected to ourselves and others. Healing is never about forgetting the past, it’s about transforming it into strength and wisdom and through this, we find peace, self-love, deepened connection with others and a renewed sense of purpose.
